Joe Forsyth began his career as an Exercise Science & Health Education student at Springfield College in 1998. As a student Joe was unsure as to which path he wanted to choose. As a collegiate wrestler, he enjoyed training with athletes and finding ways to maximize their success in sports, but found his calling working with the special and general population in a more therapeutic setting. Fortunately during his sophomore year he came under the tutelage of Robert Bergquist one of the founding professors of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training at Springfield College. As a student he worked as a Physical Therapy Aid for Physi-Call Therapy Services. While working with Professor Bergquist he learned many diagnostic techniques as well as a multitude of treatment techniques to help people with multiple issues ranging from Shoulder/Knee/Hip rehabilitation to the treatment of persons with Spinal Cord injuries and treatment of common muscle imbalances and sport related injuries. His extensive therapeutic rehabilitation experience allowed him to develop a passion working with persons with Spinal Cord injuries.
While working as a Physical Therapy Aide, Joe began working with the Wild Wheels Wheel Chair Soccer team in Springfield Massachusetts. His work with the soccer team allowed him to gain experience working with Para/Quadriplegic athletes as well as those with cerebral palsy and other spinal cord injuries. As a volunteer assistant coach he was able to assist the team in winning National Runner-up status in the 2002 National Wheel-Chair Soccer championships in Houston Texas. Joe has built life long relationships with these athletes and feels he has gained invaluable experience in the therapeutic field while volunteering and working with persons with disabilities.
Joe continued his education as a teaching assistant at Springfield College in Adapted Physical Education and completed over a thousand hours of internship experience within the field. He has served as an assistant wrestling coach for East Windsor High School and volunteers as a foster care alumni presenter for Casey Family Services.
Upon completion of his degree Joe began his career as an Exercise Specialist and has not looked back. Developing his skills as an exercise professional, he has trained people in all walks of life and has been able to teach them the importance proper training. He continued to work in physical therapy for over four years with Physi-Call as well as Health South. Joe is certified by through the Exercise Science Alliance (ESA) as a Master Trainer, Medical Exercise Specialist and National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a Certified Personal trainer (C-PT). His affiliations include the American Association of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), Springfield College Alumni Association, National Wheelchair Sports Association, Joe is also a member of the Berlin Lions Club serving his community through volunteerism. Joe is also an adjunct professor at Central Connecticut State University in the Physical Education Exercise Science Department.
While working as a personal trainer, Joe has excelled to one of the highest positions within the field as a Personal Trainer Certification Educator. As a certification educator for companies such as Exercise Science Alliance (ESA), American Fitness and Aerobics Association (AFAA) and World Instructor training Schools (WITS) Joe has been able to instill his experience and passion for fitness and wellness in upcoming fitness professionals. He personally educates and insists his staff of dedicated trainers have the same passion for the field of exercise science as he does. Joe also supervises interns from CCSU as well as Springfield College developing their skills to become successful trainers within the field.
